Composition Event & Contest

The State Composition Event is both a Junior Festival Event, and a State Contest.  Entrants will earn Gold Cup Points based on their rating. State winners will advance and compete at the regional level in the NFMC Western Region Composition Contest.  Contact Jacqueline Ho for more information.

Contest Entry Fees

$30 -Students whose teachers are current CMFC members

$50 -Students who do not have a CMFC teacher

$30 state entry fee, plus $20 for an individual NFMC membership

Contest Divisions

Your age as of March 1, 2025, determines your class.

Junior Class I - ages 9 and under

Junior Class II - ages 10 - 12

Junior Class III - ages 13 - 15

Junior Class IV - ages 16 - 18

*Compositions may be for keyboard, voice, other instruments, or any combination.

Students will need have an MP3 recording of their composition to upload and a pdf of the score

Click the Junior Composer drop down list, and choose the class that corresponds with the correct age of the student. Screenshot your entry number so that you can include the entry number with your online payment.

****To ensure your payment is received by the composition Chairs, please forward your NFMC PAYMENT PROCESSING receipt to Jacqueline Ho, along with your teacher’s name, child’s name and age. Be aware that your emailed receipt might go to your spam folder. Thank you for your cooperation!****

Select Composition Entry Fees, and manually add the fee. Include the name, students age, and number of your entry submission in the notes section. If you have multiple entrants, please pay for each entrant separately.

Students whose teachers are current CMFC members, the fees will be $30. 

Students who do not have a CMFC teacher, must first pay for an individual NFMC membership separately, which is $20.
